Silane Coupling Agent Introduction

Silane coupling agents can form a durable bond between organic and inorganic materials. The general formula for a silane coupling agent typically shows the two classes of functionality: hydrolyzable groups X and an organofunctional group R.

 AP30 Silane Coupling Agent
Link-Shine AP30 is a silane adhesion promoter with both epoxy and vinyl functional groups, designed for high-performance applications. Meanwhile, vinyl groups interact with SiH, mercapto, and other functional groups in organic systems, delivering stronger adhesion compared to traditional single-end reactive promoters. Additionally, Link-Shine AP30 enhances resin-to-substrate and filler bonding, thereby improving electrical performance in silicone potting and encapsulation materials.

AP68 Silane Coupling Agent
Link-Shine AP68 is a high-performance silane adhesion promoter, specially designed for aluminum alloy surfaces. It significantly enhances the bonding strength of sealants, MS adhesives, structural adhesives, and other industrial adhesives. The silane methoxy (Si-OCH₃) groups chemically bond with aluminum surfaces, improving adhesion, weather resistance, and moisture-heat durability.

AP75 Silane Coupling Agent
Link-Shine AP75 is a high-performance silane adhesion promoter with epoxy, phenyl, and siloxane functional groups, designed to significantly enhance adhesion across various substrates. It forms strong chemical bonds with inorganic materials such as glass, ceramics, and metal oxides, as well as polar organic polymers like epoxy resins, polyamides (nylon), and polyurethanes, ensuring superior durability and reliability.

Silane Coupling Agent Features

Higher-quality composite materials
Silane coupling agents improve dispersion during mixing of resins and fillers, and improve the mechanical strength, water and heat resistance, transparency, adhesion and other properties of the composite materials. Silane coupling agents are also highly effective in improving the chemical bonding of heat-cure resins and their compatibility with polymers.

Resin modification / Surface treatment
Reacting a resin with a silane coupling agent can improve its anchorage to inorganic materials, its low temperature humidity curing properties, and improve its weatherability and resistance to heat, acids and solvents. Silane coupling agents can also be used to treat the surface of inorganic materials to improve the materials' surface characteristics.

General Formula for Silane Coupling Agent

productcate-554-165

X is a hydrolyzable group typically alkoxy, acyloxy, halogen, or amine. Following hydrolysis, a reactive silanol group is formed, which can condense with other silanol groups, those on the surface of siliceous fillers, to form siloxane linkages. Stable condensation products are also formed with other oxides such as those of aluminum, zirconium, tin, titanium, and nickel. Less stable bonds are formed with oxides of boron, iron, and carbon. Alkali metal oxides and carbonates do not form stable bonds with Si-O-. The R group is a nonhydrolyzable organic radical that may possess a functionality to impart desired characteristics.

AP83 Silane Coupling Agent

Silane Coupling Agent Applications

• Modifiers for organic and inorganic composite materials (heat resistance, water resistance, moisture resistance, mechanical strength improvers)

• Coating additives (adhesion, weatherability, crosslinking density improvers)

• Surface treatment agents for fillers (agent for improving dispersibility and adhesiveness to resin)

• Primers for inorganic materials (agents for improving adhesion to organic resins)

Storage and Handling

The products should be kept in a cool, dark, and dry place.

The coupling agents may deteriorate when in contact with water or moisture, producing byproducts such as hydrogen chloride from chlorosilanes and methanol or ethanol from methoxy silanes or ethoxysilanes, respectively. These products should be handled with special care when kept in the open air. After opening, they should be tightly sealed to limit exposure to water or moisture. It is recommended that dry nitrogen be used to replace the air in opened containers.

FAQ

Q: How do you use silane coupling agent?

A: A 5%-20% solution of silane coupling agent is prepared as described above, and the substrate surface is treated by coating, brushing, spraying, or impregnating. Let it dry at room temperature for 24 hours and bake at 120°C for 15 minutes.

Q: What are the common chemical structures of silane coupling agents?

A: The general structure of silane coupling agents are (RO)3-Si-R'-X, where X is an organofunctional group, R' is a small alkylene linkage, and RO is a hydrolyzable group such as an alkoxy group.

Q: How do silane coupling agents work?

A: Silane coupling agents can form a durable bond between organic and inorganic materials. · X is a hydrolyzable group typically alkoxy, acyloxy, halogen, or amine.
